Using and How to Clean the Rock Reversible Grill

One side of the cooking surface has ridges, and the other is a flat griddle. The product is 3mm thick aluminum covered with a baked-on, rock-hard non-stick finish. It is resistant to scratches. Nothing will stick to it. It will not warp even when used with high heat.

This product is dishwasher safe, so all you have to do for a light-duty cleanup is wipe it down with paper towels and put it in the dishwasher.

While you are in the kitchen, be sure to make a nice cool drink with crushed ice before you return to the party. I reviewed some home ice crushers here.

The time it takes to do this will make your guests think you worked so hard to clean up the mess.

The ridged side is great to use for cooking meat, hamburgers, hot dogs, seafood, and veggies. The flat griddle side is perfect for making pancakes, fried or scrambled eggs, quesadillas, or grilled sandwiches. You can make toast for your egg breakfast using it or get a new toaster that is the cool-touch type, which I reviewed in this article.

Before you start using the product out of the box, you want to wipe it clean with a cloth and then season it with a bit of oil. Before you use it, you want to dab on some oil first. The Rock surface is pre-seasoned, so you do not have to use much oil.

The best oils for seasoning a griddle/grill have a high smoke point, such as avocado oil, canola oil, coconut oil, olive oil, peanut oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, or vegetable oil. Lard also works.

Here is how to season a griddle/grill:

  • Step One:Clean it with a wet cloth.
  • Step Two: Use a clean paper towel to spread a thin layer of oil on all the cooking surface area.
  • Step Three:Heat it on high heat for about 15 minutes until the oil starts to smoke. Use the pan under an oven hood ventilator or outside to avoid setting off your smoke alarm.

Cleaning

The way you need to approach cleaning depends on the type of mess you are facing. How to clean the Rock reversible grill is easier than a regular cast iron one.

In this video, produced by Worthless Stuffed, he shows how to clean the Rock Reversible Grill.

His main piece of advice is to clean up soon after using it. Let it cool to the touch and then wash it with soap and water. You will be surprised how easy it is to clean it because of its non-stick surface.

Types of Cleaning Problems

Here are the best ways of how to clean a Rock Reversible Grill and how to handle different cleaning problems for non-stick grills in general:

Baked on Crud

If baked-on crud fills the ridges, use some cheap chopsticks. They are a tool to run in the ridges to remove the baked-on stuff. Gently rub the chopsticks up and down each ridge to break free all the things that are stuck there.

Burnt Stuff

Burnt stuff is tough to clean. You can soak it in a dish soap solution overnight in a sink or larger pan to help soften up the burnt mess. Burnt cheese is hard to get off. The only thing worse is when the kids put plastic in the oven. I wrote about the mess that makes here.

Grease

The easiest way to deal with grease is to wipe the surfaces clean with plenty of paper towels. You can also pre-wash it with a liquid dish soap that contains a degreaser before putting it in the dishwasher.

Easy-Off makes a spray cleaning product that is used to clean pans, remove stains, and burnt-on grease. Ensure you check the warning label and use a cleaning product that will not harm the non-stick coating.

I found that spraying the grime with a cleaner and leaving it overnight makes it very easy to wash up the next day.

Follow the instructions. Wear kitchen gloves for the protection of your hands. Ensure you don’t get the cleaner on your countertops or other things that the chemicals can damage.

Barbeque Grilled Chicken

I love to cook chicken thighs and legs and then slather them with tasty barbeque sauce. The recipe is so simple.

Elise Bauer says, “Does it get any better than BBQ chicken cooked slowly and slathered with your favorite barbecue sauce?”

  1. Coat the chicken pieces with olive oil and sprinkle salt on both sides.
  2. Sear the chicken on the hot surface (ribbed side up) for five minutes on both sides.
  3. Let the pan cool. Wipe with paper towels. Turn it over.
  4. Cook the chicken on a low- to medium-heat, under a cover for 20 to 30 minutes.
  5. Turn the chicken over. Baste with barbeque sauce. Cook for another 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Turn the chicken over again. Cook for another 10 to 30 minutes.
  7. Use a meat thermometer. When the chicken is internally 170°F it is done.
  8. Baste it one more time with lots of barbeque sauce and serve hot.

In this video, produced by Worthless Stuffed, he shows how nice grilled barbeque chicken looks, and it tastes so good too.

He also shows how he used the other side to make pancakes, fry bacon, and much more. It shows how versatile this grill/griddle pan is for cooking many things. Once you start using it, you will wonder how you ever got along without one.
